The thought of getting closer to nature and other objects you fancy seeing is an exciting idea for many people explaining the gaining popularity of binoculars these past years. Why would they not, when they can easily get a pair and, voila, they achieve what you want! Binoculars now come in all sorts of models, colors and sizes, and so, it can become really confusing to get the right one for your needs or to get your money’s worth.
But regardless of all the features that manufacturers now add to binoculars to make customers buy their products, having good quality optics is still of prime most importance. This is why Leupold has come up with the Leupold Bx-2 Acadia binoculars.
Taking its name from the first National Park east of the Mississippi river, this LEUPOLD 10×42 Binocular, Mossy Oak Break-Up Infinity (119192) was manufactured to offer something new in binoculars. These binoculars are unique because it combines the handling characteristics of a roof prism binocular with the price and, more importantly, performance of a porro prism design.
It cannot be denied that many people prefer roof prism binoculars but decide to shift to a porro prism unit for what a roof prism model cannot offer. Leupold, an internationally-known company known for its superb performance in binocular optics, seeks to satisfy that need of picky consumers with this exceptional product that can be used for a variety of purposes.

Why should you get these Mossy Oak binoculars?
For a product that is expected to be roughed up, given that its usage is almost always on the outdoors, it is such a relief to know that Leupold offers the Leupold Golden Ring® Electronics Limited Two-Year Warranty. Any defects in materials or workmanship will be repaired or replaced, if necessary, or refunded.
This warranty doesn’t even require owners to present warranty cards and doesn’t have any time limit. However, warranty excludes electronic components, which are covered by a limited two-year warranty.
The manufacturer guarantees the superiority of their workmanship because the bx-2 binoculars are well protected against all conditions in the outdoors. It not only provides a generous warranty, but, also made their product waterproof and Nitrogen-filled with armor housing. This feature removes a big cause of concern to users especially because one doesn’t want to be limited by environment conditions.
Novice users will appreciate the generous eye relief found in the Leupold Acadia binoculars that provides for comfortable extended viewing. It also has a smooth diopter focus paddle on the large, tactile center focus dial. The diopter secures the two barrels in proper relation and thereafter, will just need to turn the central focusing knob to properly focus the binoculars and compensate for in-between eye differences.
What are the features of Leupold bx2 Acadia binoculars?
Keeping in mind that they needed to come up with a new model of binoculars that offered good quality optics at a popular price, the manufacturer persevered to produce this binocular that combined the look and feel of roof prism technology with the performance of a BAK-4 high density porro prism glass. To understand better this particular feature that is unique to the bx-2 binoculars, here’s a highlight of both designs.
The porro prism technology is a popular choice because it is more light efficient with images having better contrast and enhance clarity. Roof prisms, meanwhile, are the newer version but which immediately created a strong demand because it is compact, light, and comfortable to hold.
The crooked shape of the porro prism design looked so ancient in comparison to the newer roof prism look. But, on the inside, roof prisms comprised a more complex light path and required much greater optical precision in manufacturing resulting in higher cost. However, the porro prism design produced superior image quality compared to roof prisms.
Imagine having the amazingly best features of both designs in one binocular and you have the exceptional Leupold Bx-2.
To get an even better close up of the outdoors, Leupold also put in a wide 7.0 degree field of view to make it easier to follow movement. And seeing images through a 368 ft. at 1000 yds lens completes the experience.
What makes this design different from other binoculars?
On holding this binocular, you get the feel that it’s compact but not in the way that we are used to with other similarly designed ergonomic compact binoculars. There’s a distinct difference in its surprisingly lightweight, sleek and slim design that makes it very comfortable in my grasp and easy to hold even when you will use it for prolonged viewing. It is also surprisingly lightweight despite having an armor coated housing and waterproof design.
The well balanced, phase coated, roof-prism design makes them comfortable and easy to hold, even during periods of prolonged viewing. Ergonomic placement of the diopter adjustment lever on the center focus wheel makes adjusting diopter settings to meet each user’s specific needs fast and easy.
Some Disadvantages
Noticeable is the bit of roughness on the edge of the eye piece in the Leupold Bx-2. Though it fits well, the portion that rests on the nose feels rough on the sides when it is used for a period of time and makes it quite uncomfortable to wear.
Obviously the neck strap is not of the best quality and is not recommendable to use for hunting or other lengthy periods of adventure. It is flimsy and looks like it is going to break easily. Closing and opening the Velcro mechanism is quite noisy, also, which can scare animals.
The lens cover also falls off easily and can be really inconvenient to keep picking it up, especially when it’s hanging from the neck.
Other Additional Accessories That Come With This Binocular.
Included in the box are the carry case, a quick detach neoprene neck strap, rainguard and tethered objective lens covers.
The Verdict
The Leupold Bx-2 Acadia binoculars are your best choice if you want to see images that are sharp, very clear and vibrant. It uses the porro prism design to come up with superior images, therefore, bringing down the cost, and then, adopted the classic and simple roof prism design and came up with the best features of the two impressive technologies. It’s lightweight, sleek and compact but has the best optics at an affordable price.
Making this kind of a product is such a big leap from other binocular models. This model gives its higher-end rivals a run for their money.
With its features and price, you surely get the best end of the bargain!
